Proper equipment must be available if maternity areas are maintained in a dry and clean fashion. Rusted chains not only increase contamination, but also develop sharp edges which may endanger the cow or calf. The following supply list covers items that should be available in the maternity area:

1. Calf jack
2. OB chains and handles
3. Iodine soap
4. Lubricant
5. Plastic sleeves
6. Bucket
7. 7% iodine solution

Keeping supplies and equipment clean not only extends their life but also decreases the spread of disease.
